- received his doctorate in 1989 from the Kurchatov Research Center, Moscow
- since 2000 at GSI
- habilitated in 2012 at the Goethe University Frankfurt
- since June 2019 Associate Professor at the Institute for Applied Physics at the Goethe University Frankfurt
- currently working in the field of laser-plasma interaction for particle acceleration and X-ray sources
