- PhD from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2018
- a period spent abroad at the SLAC National Laboratory and Stanford University, focusing on the coherent scattering of X-rays from ultrashort-lived atomic states
- research into particle acceleration using relativistic laser pulses, plasma physics, light-matter interactions and laser-plasma instabilities, including for fusion research
- since 2023, he has held a professorship at the Institute of Nuclear Physics at TU Darmstadt and is a member of the University Council of TU Darmstadt
