- obtained a PhD in 1995 from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich
- conducts research in the field of accelerator physics, with stints at SLAC in the USA, CERN in Geneva, DESY in Hamburg and, since 2023, at GSI in Darmstadt
- has held a professorship in accelerator physics at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2025
- has been a Principal Investigator at the Helmholtz Research Academy Hesse for FAIR since 2025
