- researches atomic nuclear structures with the aid of the superconducting Darmstadt Electron Linear Accelerator (S-DALINAC)
- was instrumental in the discovery of a rare form of double gamma decay
- holds a professorship at the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the TU Darmstadt and the role of Managing Director at the Institute
